SRMC Named Official Healthcare Provider Of UNCP Athletics
PEMBROKE, N.C. - Officials with Southeastern Regional Medical Center and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced a 10-year agreement naming SRMC as the Official Healthcare Provider of UNCP Athletics Wednesday morning.
The partnership meshes two signature “brands” in southeastern North Carolina, with SRMC and UNCP working together on marketing both brands on and off each campus.
UNCP Chancellor Allen C. Meadors called the agreement a landmark for the University.
“I can’t thank Luckey Welsh and SRMC’s Board of Directors enough for their faith on our institutional mission,” Meadors said. “This commitment helps take our athletic programs to an all new level.
“Both UNCP and SRMC are key contributors to our region and its future success. New academic programs like the four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing and student programs like football continue to enhance the opportunities for our students and region. Partnerships with key constituents, like SRMC, are essential to these programs and the future of our region.
“Having Robeson County’s state-of-the-art medical center as our neighbor and supporter is a wonderful asset. We take great pride in this strong working relationship and we salute SRMC’s commitment to quality, reliability and community service. SRMC has made a commitment to the people of this community, this University and the student-athletes at UNCP.”
One of the largest employers in the region with about 1,800 employees, SRMC also includes more than 125 physicians on its progressive medical staff. Together, they demonstrate our values as they work to fulfill their mission as the major health care provider in south-eastern North Carolina.
A not-for-profit organization, Southeastern Regional Medical Center offers a combination of acute care, intensive care and psychiatric services to over 13,000 inpatients and 75,000 outpatients annually. As a non-profit organization, SRMC is operated by a local 15-member board of trustees whose only compensation is the assurance that they are making available quality health care for their community.
SRMC’s fully-accredited medical center operates licensed for 314 hospital beds and 115 long-term care beds. It operates the Southeastern Heart Center, Gibson Cancer Center, hospice services, a lifestyle, fitness and rehabilitation center and more.
“We would like to thank Southeastern Regional Medical Center for this special partnership,” said UNCP athletic director Dan Kenney. “We are pleased to designate them as the official healthcare provider of UNCP athletics. The two institutions have partnered on many previous projects and this venture creates excitement for the future of the UNCP athletic department.”
