Braves Climb Two Spots In Baseball Coaches Poll
TUCSON, Ariz. – Following a week in which they pitched a perfect 5-0 record, the UNCP baseball team climbed two spots to No. 7 in the latest top-30 listing released on Monday afternoon by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.
UNCP (20-3) is still one of seven Peach Belt Conference teams included in the listing. Last week's top-ranked team, Georgia College, tumbled four spots to No. 5 after dropping a league series at Augusta State and North Georgia fell a spot to No. 10 despite sweeping a PBC series with Georgia Southwestern. Lander made its season debut in the national rankings after sweeping a three-game set with USC Aiken, while Armstrong Atlantic jumped four spots to No. 16 following a series victory over then No. 13 Francis Marion.
The Patriots made the second-biggest drop of any league team in the poll, falling 11 spots to No. 24. Columbus State rounds out the PBC teams in the listing as the Cougars ascended two spots to No. 28 on the shoulders of a home series victory against Montevallo. USC Aiken, ranked No. 17 in last week's listing, dropped completely out of the poll after being swept by Lander.
Emporia State is the nation's newest No. 1 team after sweeping a conference set at Truman. Mount Olive is ranked second behind the Hornets, with Central Missouri, West Florida and Georgia College rounding out the top five.
UNCP will be back in action again on Wednesday when the Braves lace up to battle region rival Mars Hill (11-15) in a 2 p.m. contest at Sammy Cox Field. Admission prices are $5 for adults and $2 for children 18 years of age and younger. UNCP students are admitted free with a valid Braves Card.
