Baseball's Josh Haley Named UNCP Student-Athlete Of The Week
PEMBROKE – After accounting for nearly 25 percent of UNCP's total runs scored amidst a 5-0 run for the Braves last week, senior Josh Haley has been named this week's UNCP Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.
Haley, a Jackson Springs native, hit .556 (10-for-18) in five starts last week and complemented his gaudy batting average with four walks, one hit by pitch, one RBI and 12 runs scored. He was a perfect 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts, while also recording a .722 slugging percentage and a .652 on-base percentage. For good measure, he was perfect in the field as well, recording a 1.000 fielding percentage on nine total chances. He also recorded four multiple-hit games on the week and scored two or more runs in four outings as well.
Haley recorded a modest 2-for-8 (.250) clip in the midweek series with Chowan, but erupted in the weekend series with Salem International by hitting 8-for-10 (.800) with nine runs scored and six stolen bases. He hit 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a trio of stolen bases in Saturday's series opener with the Tigers, walked and scored twice and stole a pair of bases on a perfect 2-for-2 hitting line in game two of the series and then hit 4-for-4 with four runs scored in Sunday's series finale.
A four-year starter for the Black & Gold, Haley has played in 158 games (152 starts) during his career in Pembroke and has recorded a .343 (205-for-598) career batting average to go along with 55 extra-base hits (14 HR), 107 RBI and 163 runs scored. He is 74-of-88 on stolen base attempts over the last four years and has recorded a phenomenal .982 fielding percentage as well.
