UNCP Trio Named Football Gazette All-Americans

PITTSBURG, Kan. – UNCP punter Justin Hinson picked up his second first team all-America laurel of the postseason, while offensive linemen Hivera Green and Keith Broderick earned all-American status as honorable mentions, with the release of the Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America teams on Tuesday morning.

Hinson, who has already earned all-America accolades from the Associated Press (1st team Little All-America) and D2Football.com (honorable mention), also shared specialist of the year accolades with Southeastern Oklahoma return man Jerome Hewitt. The Braves now boast four all-Americans in the short three-year history of intercollegiate football in Pembroke, including safety Caylon Hann who earned all-America laurels from Football Gazette last season and preseason all-America honors from Collegiate Draft Services in 2009.

A reliable weapon in the special teams arsenal for the Black and Gold this season, Hinson punted 40 times for a nation's-best 43.0 average, including nine punts that went for 50 yards or more. Of his 40 kicks, 11 (27.5 percent) were downed inside the 20-yard line as well. He also registered six kicks that resulted in touchbacks.

Green and Broderick both anchored an offensive line that ranked seventh in the country in sacks allowed (0.91/game) and paved the way for the country's ninth-best rushing attack that produced the first 1,000-yard rusher in school history.

This marks the 22nd year Don Hansen's Football Gazette, a recognized authority on small college football, has selected an NCAA Division II All-America team. The national publication selected All-Region teams with the first-team and second-team All-Region players from each of the four geographic regions (Super Region One – former Northeast; Super Region Two – former Southeast; Super Region Three – former Northwest; Super Region Four – former Southwest) comprising the national ballot, which was voted upon by a select national panel.

A total of 157 players earned some form of Football Gazette All-America honors. Players from 83 of the 150 football-playing schools in Division II earned Football Gazette All-America accolades. National Champion NW Missouri State and national quarterfinalist West Liberty State led the way by placing seven players apiece on all-America squad, while national semifinalist California (Pa.) had six honorees.
