Braves Report For 2010 Football Season

PEMBROKE – UNCP head coach Pete Shinnick welcomed more than 115 football players to campus on Tuesday morning as the Braves reported for preseason drills to officially kick off the 2010 football season.

More than 50 freshmen and newcomers arrived on campus to check into their dorms at noon, with the remainder of the squad reporting to the Bob Caton Fieldhouse shortly thereafter. Following a late afternoon team meeting, as well as an optional meeting for parents, the Braves are scheduled to undergo physicals, while also having their first team dinner.

Day one activities also included a team meeting where "big brothers" were assigned to the fresh faces in hopes of a quicker and smoother adaptation to college life.

The team will report to the practice field for the first time on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for the first of five sessions in the NCAA-mandated acclimatization period. All practices are open to the public, but spectators are asked to remain outside the fenced area surrounding the practice fields behind Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

UNCP will hit the gridiron for its fourth season of intercollegiate football in less than 25 days when the Braves host Fayetteville State at 6 p.m. in the second annual Two Rivers Classic at Grace P. Johnson Stadium. For UNCP season ticket information please visit the official online home of UNCP athletics, www.UNCPBraves.com.
