Footballs Morris McLaughlin Named UNCP Athlete of the Week
PEMBROKE – After turning in an
outstanding performance amidst UNCP's 42-14 destruction of Saint
Paul's on Saturday afternoon in South Hill, Va., senior defensive
tackle Morris
McLaughlin has been named this week's UNCP Athlete of the Week,
athletic department officials announced Monday.
McLaughlin, a Siler City native, matched fellow stalwart Karlin Brown
in registering a team-best six tackles against the Tigers, but set
up tent behind the line of scrimmage at Parkview High School on
Saturday. The fifth-year senior amassed five tackles for loss (-19
yards), included in which was a phenomenal three sacks (-12 yards).
The performance marked the second time in his career that
McLaughlin has accomplished such a feat as he tallied a school
record 3-1/2 sacks (-28) yards in his redshirt freshman season
against Concord.
McLaughlin has totaled 95 tackles in his three-year career at
UNCP, including 39-1/2 tackles for loss (-171 yards), two forced
fumbles, one fumble recovery, two pass break-ups and a blocked
kick. He has also tallied 17 quarterback sacks, including 16 solo
stuffs, during his time with the Black and Gold as well.
