Braves Jump Three More Spots In AFCA Top 25 Poll
WACO, Texas – Following a decisive 42-14
victory at St. Paul's in which it amassed 440 yards of total
offense while also matching a school record with eight sacks, UNCP
made another jump in the American Football Coaches Association
Division II Coaches' Poll on Monday, leaping three spots to
No. 14 in the latest listing by the organization.
UNCP is one of seven NCAA Super Region II teams in the poll this
week, joining third-ranked North Alabama, No. 8 West Alabama, No.
10 Tuskegee, No. 19 Carson-Newman, No. 20 Valdosta State and No. 24
Tusculum.
Valdosta State beat Newberry, 45-17, and Tusculum moved its record
to 3-0 after a 54-30 win over FCS-member Western Carolina, moving
both teams into the AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll at
No. 20 and No. 24, respectively. Grand Valley State still holds
down the No. 1 ranking after beating then-No. 11 Hillsdale, 44-41.
The Lakers received 23 of a possible 26 first-place votes.
Minnesota-Duluth still sits No. 2 and received one first-place vote
while No. 3 North Alabama received the final two first place votes.
California (Pa.) and Abilene Christian round out the Top 5.
There are two Top 25 matchups in this week's games. No. 2
Minnesota-Duluth plays host to No. 18 Wayne State (Neb.) while No.
11 Missouri Western State travels to No. 15 Washburn. This will be
the Ichabods' second-straight Top 25 opponent in only three
games this season.
The Braves will be back in action again on Saturday when they close
out a short two-game road swing at Wingate (1-1). Kickoff has been
set for 1:30 p.m. at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin
Field.
