Football’s Travis Daniels Named UNCP Student-Athlete Of The Week
PEMBROKE – After playing a key role in leading the UNCP football team to an impressive come-from-behind victory over Glenville State on Saturday, running back Travis Daniels has been named this week's UNCP Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.
Daniels, a Washington native, turned in his second school record-breaking performance in the last three games against the Pioneers, this time rushing for 147 yards and a program-best four touchdowns on 21 carries (7.0 yards/carry). The senior carried the ball nine times for 40 yards (4.4 avg.) and two touchdowns in the opening stanza, but then erupted for 107 yards and two scores on 12 carries (8.9) in the second half. His fourth touchdown of the game – a 5-yard plunge with 3:18 left in the third quarter – gave the Braves their first lead of the game.
With the performance, Daniels propelled himself to the top of both the career rushing yards and rushing touchdowns list. Through 35 games, he has carried the ball 377 times for 2,375 yards (6.3) and 25 touchdowns. He is also the current school record holder in career rushing yards per game (67.9) and all-purpose yards (2,806). Daniels also holds the single season school record for rushing yards (1,042 in 2009), rushing touchdowns (11) and rushing yards per game (94.7).
