Williams Earns Another Preseason All-American Honor

ROSELAND, N.J. – Senior linebacker Fred Williams added another notch to his stable of honors on Wednesday morning as the Fayetteville native was named to the USA College Football NCAA Division II Preseason All-America team, the organization announced.

Williams, a first team selection to the squad, grabs his second accolade of the preseason having shored up similar honors from Beyond Sports Network in June.

An 11-game starter at middle linebacker, Williams set a new school record with 113 tackles (61 solo), including 6-1/2 tackles for loss (3 sacks) and seven pass break-ups. He also both forced and recovered a fumble for the Braves as well. Williams turned in double-digit tackle totals against six different opponents, including finishing just one stop off the single-game school record after making 18 tackles in the overtime loss to Wingate. He also recorded at least one pass break-up in four games, while registering a pair of sacks in the season finale against West Liberty.

The Braves will lift the lid on their 2012 campaign on September 1 when they travel to Winston-Salem State for a 6 p.m. contest at Bowman-Gray Stadium.
