Walor Jumps 22 Spots At NCAA Regional Tournament

WILSON – All-American Jordan Walor played mistake free golf and registered a trio of birdies to card a 3-under-par 68 in the second round of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional Championships on Tuesday afternoon at the par-71, 6,839-yard Wilson Country Club.

The round helped the UNCP sophomore jump 22 spots in the individual standings after registering a 73 in Monday's opening round. Walor now sits in a tie for 15th among  180 individuals competing in the event.

Beginning his second round from the 10th tee box, Walor booked seven pars and birdied the 16th and 18th holes in finishing 2-under par on the back nine, and then registered eight pars, as well as a birdie on the hole No. 5, to finish the day. The Wake Forest native registered two bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine and a pair of birdies on the front nine in Monday's opening round.

The top five teams from each of the South and Southeast Regions and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 18-21 at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind. The finals will be hosted by the Indiana Sports Corporation, the University of Indianapolis, the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Hamilton County Sports Authority.

Walor joined North Greenville's Brad Caldwell, Clayton State's Wade Binfield and Georgia Southwestern's Craig Gibson as the only individuals selected to play in the Peach Belt Conference dominated-event. PBC Champion Georgia College, Lander, Flagler, Armstrong Atlantic and Columbus State are among the 10 squads competing for the team title. Other participating schools from the Southeast Region include Barton, Belmont Abbey, Queens, Newberry and Lincoln Memorial.

The Southeast Regional is being held in conjunction with the NCAA's South Regional as well. The South Regional consists of Barry, Florida Southern, North Alabama, West Florida, Nova Southeastern, Lynn, Valdosta State, Rollins, Saint Leo and Arkansas Tech. The South Regional individual qualifiers are Henderson State's Ben Cuzen, Delta State's Chase Smith, West Georgia's Bryn Powers and Florida Tech's Zach Powers.

The honor marks the second time in as many years that the Wake Forest native has qualified for the NCAA postseason, finishing 12th at last season's NCAA Regionals and missing the cut for an appearance at the NCAA National Championships by just three strokes. Walor is familiar with the Wilson Country Club, having finished in a tie for third with rounds of 70 and 71 earlier this season at the Barton Intercollegiate (March 8-9).
