GREENWOOD, S.C. – Led by a second-round 68 by junior Jonathan McCurry, the UNCP men's golf squad erased a 10-stroke deficit and trimmed seven strokes off their opening round score to capture the team title over the 17-team field at the Bearcat Golf Classic which was held at the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club.

The No. 19 Braves' 283 on the second round left them a combined two-under-par for the tournament and one stroke ahead of Carson-Newman for the team championship. The tournament featured six teams ranked in the top 30 in the country according to Golfstat.com's head-to-head computer rankings.

This is the second win of the season for the Braves after they captured the team title over another 17-team field at the Richard Rendleman Invitational on March 7-8. 

McCurry finished in a tie for second overall on the individual leaderboard after cutting four strokes of his first 18 to finish four-under-par and two strokes behind Joe Young of Georgia College, who took home medalist honors after finishing six-under-par.

Fellow junior Carson Lanier finished with a 71 during the second round to place him in a tie for sixth overall and three-under-par and Jordan Walor ended his competition in a tie for 22nd overall after a second-round 71 took three strokes off his first 18 holes and placed him one-over-par for the tournament.

Scott Lambert finished three-over-par after a final-round 73 to finish in a tie for 34th overall and freshman Michael Mullmann rounded out the Braves' scorecards with a 78 to finish in a tie for 74th overall.

The Braves' will be back at it this weekend when they host the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate at the Carolina Sands Country Club in White Lake.
