No. 15 UNCP Third At Will Wilson SE Preview
CLEMMONS – A final-round 284 pushed Carson-Newman past second round leaders UNC Pembroke and Wingate for the team championship at the 2011 Will Wilson Southeast Regional Preview on Tuesday at the par-70 Championship Course at Tanglewood Golf Club in Clemmons.
The No. 15 Braves posted a 289 on the final round to finish four strokes back of the lead in third place. Wingate recorded a 287 on the final round to moved two strokes ahead of UNCP for second overall. The Braves have now finished in the top five overall in five of their last seven tournaments dating back to last season.
Returning all-American Jonathan McCurry led the Braves with a one-under-par 69 on the final round which moved him up to seventh overall. McCurry entered the day in a tie for 13th overall and his seventh-place finish gives him the 11th top-10 finish of his career.
Two-time all-American Jordan Walor recorded his 18th career top-10 finish, and the third-straight to start the season, after finishing tied for eighth overall.
Scott Lambert and Carson Lanier finished tied for 20th and 29th, respectively, after recording rounds of 70 and 76 on the final 18 holes.
Sophomore Ian Locklear finished in a tie for 40th overall after shooting his lowest round of the tournament, a 74, on Tuesday.
