Braves Tied For Ninth After Day One Of NCAA Super Regional

CONOVER – Jordan Walor carded a 2-under-par 70, while Jonathan McCurry and Carson Lanier each turned in 2-over-par 74s, to lead the fourth-ranked UNCP men's golf team to a share of ninth place after the opening round of the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional on Monday at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa.

Walor offset two bogeys and a double bogey with six birdies and sits in a seven-way tie for third place on the individual leaderboard, just two strokes off the pace set by Georgia Southwestern's J.P. Griffin. McCurry and Lanier are among a dozen individuals tied for 41st place. Scott Lambert and Michael Mullmann both turned in 78s on day one and share 84th place with four other players.

Florida Tech has set the pace for the 20-team field after day one on the par-72, 7,064-yard Jones Course at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa. The Panthers combined for a 2-under-par 286 and lead second-place and fifth-ranked Lynn (E) by two strokes head into day two of the three-day event. No. 25 Barton (+2) is third, while 21st-ranked Georgia College and 22nd-ranked Rollins are tied for fourth place after both shot a 3-over-par 291 on Monday.

Sixth-ranked USC Aiken (+6) is in sixth place, while Eckerd (+7) and second-ranked Barry (+7) are tied for seventh. The Braves (+8) and 24th-ranked Carson-Newman (+8) round out the top 10.

A total of 27 players in the field of 108 shot even par or better on Monday, including 18 players that turned sub-par rounds.

The 54-hole event will resume on Tuesday morning with tee times set to begin at 7:30 a.m. The Braves will head onto the course at noon for the first of their five individual tee times.
