Braves Conclude Day One Of Shamrock Invite

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – UNCP track and field newcomer, Pardon Ndhlovu improved upon his NCAA National Provisional Qualifying time in the 5000m event  as the Braves' track and field squad wrapped up its first day of competition at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Event.

The Shamrock Invitational marks Coastal Carolina's final home meet of the season at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Invitational contains over 1,000 athletes, 36 schools and four clubs. While UNCP will only be competing on Friday and Saturday, the event had been set to take place over three days of competition with day one on Thursday consisting of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.

The Brave's highest finisher of day one competition was Ndhlovu who improved upon his NCAA Championship provisional mark for the 5000m run (14:45.00). Ndhlovu who ran a 14:43.48 on March 5 at the UNF Invitational, had a 14:31.41 performance on Friday at the Doug Shaw Stadium to take second.

The 4x200m relay team of Devan Cureton (1), Maurice Eubanks (2), Sesh Parker (3) and Karlos Jordan (4) also had a successful showing in day one of the Shamrock competition with a 12th place finish in 1:28.31, just 0.06 seconds behind the 11th place Bowie State relay team.

The Braves will continue competition on Saturday at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational.
