Braves Log Seven First-Place Finishes At CCU Chanticleer Classic
CONWAY, S.C. – The UNCP men's track and field team registered eight top-5 finishes, including seven first place laurels, at the Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Classic on Saturday.
The first-place finishes included Karlos Jordan's time of 10.88 seconds in the 100m dash, Maurice Eubanks's season-best mark of 48.21 seconds in the 400m dash and Pardon Ndhlovu's personal-best time of 3:58.22 in the 1500m run. Kevin Clancy ran a personal best in the 3000m run with a time of 9:05.16 and Duane Thompson captured a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 13.37m.
The 4x100m relay team (Sesh Parker, Jordan, Eubanks, Jon Williams) finished just .01 seconds off the NCAA Provisional Qualifying time with a season-best mark of 41.36 seconds en route to top honors. The 4x400m relay team (Jordan, Ndhlovu, Eubanks, Williams) ran a season-best time of 3:20.18 as well.
Thompson and Eubanks competed in the long jump with marks of 6.36m (2nd) and 6.13m (4th), respectively. Williams finished the 100m dash with a time of 11.23 seconds and the 400m dash with a time of 50.03 seconds for two new personal records while also garnering sixth- and fourth-place finishes, respectively. Also setting a new personal best was Chris Schroll in the 800m dash with a time of 2:03.36 for a fourth place finish. Schroll finished seventh in the 1500m run with a time of 4:17.83.
Jameel Joyner finished seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 11.34 seconds and sixth in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 22.97. Malcom Jones finished the 100m dash with a time of 11.45 seconds for a ninth place finish and a seventh place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 23.17 seconds.
AJ Davis Jr. led the way in the throwing events with a fourth place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 39.85m, fifth in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 47.45m and fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.00m. Darrell Greene set a new personal record in the discus throw with a mark of 37.91m en route to a fifth-place finish, an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw with a throw of 30.90m, and sixth in the shot put with a mark of 11.00m.
The men's track and field team will continue competition next weekend when the Braves compete at the Lenoir-Rhyne-hosted NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships in Hickory on Friday and Saturday.
