20 Questions With Track & Field's Maurice Eubanks

UNCPBraves.com sat down with senior sprinter Maurice Eubanks to learn of his opinion on a variety of topics ranging from his proudest sports moment to how he wants to be remembered when he leaves Pembroke. The following 20 questions are a part of a continuing feature at your official Internet home for UNCP Athletics.

Eubanks, a Silver City native, has placed among the top 5 in every event he has competed in during the 2011 track season with a combined 11 first place finishes out of 20 total races. He is NCAA provisionally qualified for the national championship Meet in the 100m dash with a time of 10.42 seconds, in the 200m dash with a time of 21.11 seconds and as the third leg in the 4x100m relay with a time of 41.19 seconds. He is also attempting to provisionally qualify in the 400m dash, needing to shave just 0.11 seconds from his time.

Maurice competed as a junior at the NCAA Championships in the 100m dash finishing 13th and in the 4x100m relay (fourth leg) for an 11th place finish.  He has moved from a 400m dash runner in his freshman and sophomore seasons into a fundamental 100m and 200m dash runner in the second half of his college career.

I Came To UNCP Because: I was offered a scholarship and had friends that already attended.

Favorite City To Visit: Greensboro because it's close to Pembroke and most of my family lives there. There are many things to do in the city.

Favorite Pro Sports Teams: Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL) and Los Angeles Lakers (NBA)

I Can Do This One Thing Almost Better Than Anyone: Play spades

Worst Habit: Procrastinating on assignments

Athlete I Idolized Growing Up: Maurice Greene because he once held the 100m dash world record

If I Could Play Another Sport At UNCP, I Would Play: Football because I played 3 years on the varsity team in high school and love being physical

Most Thrilling Experience: My first plane ride to Penn Relays

Least Favorite Conditioning Drill: Sprint circuit which combines a lot of 100s and 200s and takes about 21 minutes to complete

Most Prized Possession Of No Value: My grandfather's honorable discharge who served in WWII

My Current Ringtone Is: Waka Flocka Flame ___ This Industry

Who Would Portray You In A Movie About Your Life?: Derek Luke who played as Boobie Miles on Friday Night Lights. He does a great job in a lot of his movies such as Antwone Fisher.

Dream Job: Professional track athlete

Coolest Place I Have Competed At: Penn Relays. The experience was amazing competing against athletes from all divisions in front of such a huge crowd.

In 10 Years, I Will Be: Hopefully achieving great things in track and becoming head track coach. I would like to be settled down with a wife and a child.

Proudest Sports Moment: Qualifying for nationals in the 100m and 200m dashes

What I Love Most About UNCP?: The campus is small, you don't have to walk far to buildings, and the small classroom size.

My Advice To Youngsters Would Be: No matter how much people doubt you and degrade you, you are special and can be successful in what you do.

What Is One Thing You Want To Happen Before You Leave UNCP?: Be a national champion in 3 events - 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

How Do You Want People At UNCP To Remember You?: As a cool, once-mediocre athlete that busted his tail to become one of the elites.
