Braves Finish Strong At Duke Twilight
DURHAM – The UNCP men's track and field team by used strong finishes by AJ Davis Jr., Maurice Eubanks and Karlos Jordan to led the Braves on Sunday at the Asics Duke Twilight Invitational.
In the hammer throw, Davis registered a new personal-best mark with 52.08m to pull into a fifth place finish. Eubanks and Jordan finished fourth and fifth in the 200m dash with time of 21.18 seconds and 21.29 seconds, respectively. Jordan set a new season-best time in the competition while improving on his NCAA provisional qualifying time. The 4x100m relay (Sesh Parker, Jordan, Jameel Joyner, Eubanks) took home a first place finish with a time of 41.19 seconds.
Pardon Ndhlovu placed eighth in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.64 while placing second in his heat, running one-tenth of a second behind the first place runner from Morehouse. Chris Schroll placed 13th in the 5000m run with a time of 15:24.25. Freshman Malcom Jones and Joyner competed in the 100m and 200m dashes. Jones set a new personal record in the 100m dash with a time of 11.24 seconds for a 15th place finish and competed in the 200m dash with a time of 23.30 seconds for a 25th place finish. Joyner registered a new personal best in the 200m dash with a time of 22.83 seconds for a 19th place finish, while placing 20th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.40 seconds.
Select members of the men's track and field team will continue competition at the Carolina Qualifier on May 15 in Chapel Hill.
