Field Events Start Day One At Weems Baskin Invitational
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNCP men's track and field team began competition with representation in three field events on the first day of the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by South Carolina on Friday at Weems Baskin Track in Columbia, S.C.
AJ Davis Jr. began competition for UNCP in the hammer throw as he finished the event with a 15th place finish after registering a mark of 49.48m, while freshman Eric Upchurch posted a throw of 39.13m for a 31st place finish and a new personal best.
Shaquille Ray and Jon Williams then took to competition in the javelin with 31st and 32nd place finish, respectively, as both debuted for the first time in that event. Ray collected a mark of 23.57m, while Williams threw 19.63m.
Duane Thompson wrapped up the field events before the inclement weather halted the hammer throw and finished ninth in the long jump with a new personal best of 6.74m.
The Braves continue action on day two of the Weems Baskin Invitational on Saturday.
