NEW ORLEANS – After junior Pardon Ndhlovu out-paced 34 other athletes taking top honors in the 10,000m run at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday evening, the UNCP men's track and field team was ranked second in the region rankings of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the fourth consecutive week on Tuesday.
Mount Olive still leads the region in first, while the Black and Gold trail in second with King, Mars Hill, Wingate, Columbus State, Anderson (S.C.), Lees-McRae, Limestone and Clayton State following in order.
Ndhlovu found himself among the most elite athletes in collegiate track and field completion and clinched a new personal best with of 29.31.58 as he was less than one second ahead of the second place finisher. He currently holds the fastest NCAA Provisionally Qualified time in the event as she sits first in the region in the event and eighth in the nation.
The men's track and field team has concluded their season with a select few athletes continuing competition at Duke Twilight on May 6.
