UNCP Women Finish Second, Men Place Third At UNCP Cross Country Invitational

LUMBERTON – Ivy Ramsey finished fourth in the 5k run with a time of 20:23.69 to help the UNC Pembroke women's cross country team to a second place finish at the UNCP Cross Country Invitational at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton, N.C. Justin Gordon finished fifth in the 8k run with a time of 28:18.98 to lead to UNCP's men's cross country team to a third place team finish at the same event.

The meet was the 35th annual for the men's side and the 22nd annual for the women's. North Carolina Central took home first place on the women's side as NCCU's Yolanda Barber took home first place honors in the 5k. St. Augustine's took home the men's first place team honor as Isrreal Jaimes, Omar Wiggan, and Edgar Bermudez finished first, second, and third respectively in the 8k for St. Augustine's.

"Our women's team ran very well today, we just need to work on getting
everybody closer to the top five," said UNCP coach Larry Rodgers. "We struggled a little bit on the men's side just because we are dealing with some injuries but we should be back to normal in about three weeks."

Katerina Matousova finished in sixth place with a time of 20:54.77 for the Braves on the women's side to give UNCP two top-ten finishers in the event.
Laurel Sitze (21:44.91) and Adriana Yanez (22:07.80) finished 12th and 13th
respectively for the Black & Gold. Jamie Vogt rand a time of 23:53.84 to
finish 28th overall for Pembroke.

On the men's side Kyle Maguire (31:34.51) and Buck Smith (32:08.36) finished 19th and 22nd overall as Smith finished the race with only one shoe on after losing his left right one in the first kilometer of the event. L.J. Sampson (35:25.43) rounded out UNCP's runners in the event as he finished 33rd overall.
