Clancy, Ndhlovu Named To PBC All-Academic Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Senior Kevin Clancy and junior Pardon Ndhlovu have been named to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference men's cross country all-academic team released by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Clancy and Ndhlovu are among 13 given all-academic status for the current cross country season for their efforts in the classroom and on the cross country course.
Clancy held the second-highest grade point average among the individuals honored with a cumulative 3.88 GPA. The physical education major is one of the top-5 runners for the Braves, and ran a season-best in the 8K with a time of 27:00.8 at the Charlotte Invitational.
Ndhlovu's 3.40 grade point average lands him among the list of honorees. The international business major is the top runner for the Black and Gold. He was named PBC Runner of the Year and was selected to the first-team all-PBC after winning the PBC Championships with a time of 25:11.93 in the 8K.
The Zimbabwe native, has been named PBC Runner of the Week three times with the last honor being named after he registered a stellar performance to break his own school record in the 8K by four seconds. He ran a time of 24:24.00, at the enormous Charlotte Invitational as he finished third out of 260 athletes and first among all NCAA Division II athletes.
Georgia College had three runners grace the list while Clayton State, Columbus State and UNCP had two runners each on the team. Augusta State, Flagler, Montevallo and Armstrong Atlantic added one runner to the list apiece.
UNCP will now prepare for the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships at Queens' McAlpine Creek Park on November 5 in Charlotte. The men's 10K race will be run at 11:15 a.m.
The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
