Klemann’s Gem Keeps Falcons’ Offense Grounded In Lady Braves’ 3-1 Win

PEMBROKE, NORTH CAROLINA – Freshman hurler Natalie Klemann held the visiting Pfeiffer offense at bay, while freshman Schanique Barrett and senior Morgan Patrick paced the offense to lead the UNCP softball team to a 3-1 victory in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader at LRA Field in Pembroke.

The Lady Braves (8-7, 0-2 PBC) used timely hitting on offense and the help of three errors defensively by the Falcons (2-7, 2-0 CC) while Klemann put the clamps down in limiting the Pfeiffer offense to just four hits while recording the complete-game victory.

After Pfeiffer opened the top of the first inning with a run, the Lady Braves countered right back in their half of the inning when Barrett led off with a bunt single, and stole second in the next at bat. Patrick then collected her first RBI of the game on a bunt single of her own and a throwing error by the Falcons' third baseman allowed Barrett to score.

Barrett then knocked in a run of her own with a single to shortstop that scored junior Jamie Burwell from third.

The Lady Braves would add an insurance run in the sixth inning when a Patrick double off the wall in left center scored Hillary Jones from first base.

Klemann improved to 1-1 on the year after allowing one earned run while dishing out five strikeouts.

Barrett led the offense with a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI and a run scored while Patrick finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Sophomores Holly Berry and Hillary Jones each added two hits for the Lady Braves' offense.
