Five Lady Braves Named NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Five members of last season's UNCP Lady Braves softball squad have received National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Scholar-Athlete honors, and the team was named an All-Academic Team by the association when announcements were made on Monday.
UNCP was one of two Peach Belt Conference members on the list (Georgia College) and its team grade point average of 3.012 placed them 72nd nationally.
The five Lady Braves that were individually recognized were Lynn Grantham, Caroline Newman, Kristen Hobbs, Natalie Klemann and Kellie Van Dyke. To be eligible for the team, players must have compiled a 3.5 grade point average (or higher) for the past (2010-11) academic year. The All-Academic Team listings are based on cumulative team grade-point averages submitted by NFCA member head coaches.
The Lady Braves concluded the 2011 season with a 21-24 record, including a 8-12 mark in the Peach Belt Conference.
