Wilson Named PBC Freshman Of The Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Freshman Karlee Wilson was the backbone of the UNCP offense during the road sweep of Lander and helped the Lady Braves split the series with Georgia College en route to being named the Peach Belt Conference's Softball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Wilson, a Kernersville native and East Forsyth High School product, hit .400 (4-for-10) with one home run, four RBI and a trio of runs scored in doubleheaders with the Bearcats and Georgia College. Having tallied at least one hit in all four games last week, she accounted for the game-winning RBI in both wins at Lander, and then scored the eventual game-winning run in UNCP's home win over Georgia College. She also registered an eye-popping .800 slugging percentage and a .455 on-base percentage on the week as well.
Wilson walked and doubled on a 1-for-2 hitting line in the twinbill opener with the Bearcats, but it was her two-bagger with two outs in the top of the sixth inning that plated the first run of the game and keyed the 2-0 win. She proved to be clutch again in the second game of the doubleheader in Greenwood, S.C., breaking open a scoreless game with a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the fifth en route to a 3-0 victory and a doubleheader sweep.
Wilson hit .400 in the two-game series with visiting Georgia College, but emerged to deliver the eventual game-winning run in a 9-1 mercy-rule victory in game two. She walked, singled and scored two runs on a 1-for-2 plate exhibition in that contest.
