AUGUSTA, Ga. – After leading the Lady Braves to a 2-1 record this past week, junior JaToya Kemp has captured Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week laurels, the league office announced Monday afternoon. It is Kemp’s second time this season to be the player of the week honoree.

Kemp, an Elizabethtown native and East Bladen High School product averaged 23.7 points and 8.7 rebounds and put her name in the PBC record books with a 41-point performance at Armstrong Atlantic.

In three games last week, the junior shot 61.0 percent from the field and 89.0 percent from the free throw line. In the AASU game, she hit 15-of-22 shots from the floor and all 11 of her free throws to put away 41 points for the Black and Gold. The 41 points is the highest in the PBC this season and is tied for the sixth-highest single-game total in PBC history.

Kemp followed her performance against AASU with 19 points and 12 boards to beat Flagler on Saturday and secure a PBC tournament berth. The double-double against Flagler marked Kemp’s third of the season and ninth career. With her regular season performance, Kemp rocketed to the top of the PBC scoring chart with 18.0 points per game for the year. She also leads the PBC in field goal percentage while ranking sixth in rebounding and ninth in free throw percentage.

The Lady Braves will take the court again when they travel to Greenwood, S.C., on Tuesday to compete against Lander (24-2, 17-1) in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. Tip off has been set for 7 p.m.
