UNCP Ties For Third At Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate
CALABASH, N.C. – The UNCP women's golf team shot a team round record 310 on Tuesday afternoon at the 2009 Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate to finish the tournament tied for third as junior golfer Katja Dammann posted the same result in the individual competition, tying for third with a 151.
Newberry College won the team competition posting rounds of 312 and 299, finishing 13 strokes ahead of second place. Wingate University shot 314-310 to finish second while UNCP (320-310) and Lincoln Memorial (321-309) tied for third with each school tallying a 630 for the tournament at the par-72, 5,802-yard Meadowlands Golf Club.
Newberry's Maria Luz Besio won individual medalist honors firing rounds of 77-72 to finish first with a 149. Catawba's Kelsey Babos finished second with a 150 (79-71) with Dammann (75-76), Wingate's Andrea Velasquez (77-74) and Newberry's Barbara Castro (77-74) tying for third at 151.
UNCP's Christina Crovetti tied for seventh place with a 154 (78-76) and Shauna Walor tied for 17th with a 158 (85-73). Alexa Mooney finished tied for 34th (82-85, 167) and Abby Shipley (96-90, 186) finished tied for 61st to round out the Braves' competitors.
The Braves will be back in action on Oct. 12-13 when UNCP will take part in the Catawba/Patsy Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C.
