Braves Close Out Rendleman In Fourth
SALISBURY – UNCP shot a team round 321 on day two of the 2009 Patsy Rendleman Invitational on Tuesday after posting a 315 in round one to finish the tournament in fourth place with a combined 636 at the par-72, 5,983-yard Country Club of Salisbury as the Braves finish the Fall Season with four top-5 finishes.
Newberry College held off a second-day charge by Belmont Abbey to claim the title by two shots. Newberry held a five shot lead after the opening round, but Belmont Abbey shot a second day low round of 308.
Individual medalist Josefine Mensner helped Newberry hold its lead, winning by two shots over Belmont Abbey's Rita Kim. Mensner had rounds of 73 and 76 to finish on 149. Rounding out the all-tournament team was Newberry's Barbara Castro (153), Lenoir-Rhyne's Brenna Martens (153) and Belmont Abbey's Michele Low (154).
UNCP's Katja Dammann tied for eighth after shooting rounds of 77 and 79 while Jennifer Crow (76-83) and Shauna Walor (83-76) tied for 16th at 159. Christina Crovetti shot a combined 162 to finish tied for 25th and Alexa Mooney carded a 179 over two rounds to finish tied for 44th.
