Golf’s Meghan Moore Grabs Final UNCP Student-Athlete Of The Week Honor

PEMBROKE – After finishing just two strokes back of the leader en route to runner-up honors at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships on Saturday, junior Meghan Moore has been named this week's UNCP Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Wednesday.

Moore, a Durham native, carded an even-par 72 in the fourth and final round of the 72-hole event at the par-72, 6,283-yard Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Ky. She finished the event at 10-over-par – just two strokes off the pace set by individual medalist Abbey Gittings of national champion Nova Southeastern. Gittings turned in a double bogey on the par-4 13th hole to fall into a first place tie with Moore, but the NSU junior birdied both the 15th and 16th holes, and then posted pars on the final two greens.

Moore's finish is the best individual national finish by a Peach Belt Conference women's golfer in league annals and the best finish for a PBC golfer, male or female, since USC Aiken's Jeff Goff captured the individual national championship in 2008. Moore also concluded her junior campaign with a PBC-best and school record 76.03 stroke average – the second-lowest total in league history.

A three-year starter for the Lady Braves, Moore has compiled a program-best 76.3 career stroke average, while also posting 19 top-10 finishes (23 total events) over the last three years, including 17 top-5 showings. She has also tallied a phenomenal .930 (1,367-103) win-loss percentage during that time frame as well.
