Thurston, Stancil Place Fifth At Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS – Erik Stancil and Timdarius Thurston each booked fifth place finishes in their respective bracket, while Brandon Bradley finished eighth, to help UNCP to a 14th place team finish at the prestigious Midwest Classic Sunday afternoon inside Nicoson Hall on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.

Thurston, a freshman, notched two more major decisions on the day to finish with four at the tournament, including an 11-3 victory over sixth-seeded Chris Rublcaba of Mesa State in the fifth place bout. Stancil won two of three individual matches on the day, including one by injury default in his fifth place bout.

Bradley, who won two of three matches on Saturday, dropped both of his match-ups on Sunday including one to fourth-seeded Byran Massong of Mt. St. Joe in the semifinals.

The Braves will return to the mat on Saturday when they return home to host the Braves Open at the English E. Jones Center. Wrestling action is set to get underway at 9 a.m.
