Soccer's Anna Svensson Named UNCP Athlete Of The Week
PEMBROKE – After playing a key role in
two victories for the women's soccer team last week,
including a rousing victory over region rival Lenoir-Rhyne,
sophomore forward Anna Svensson has been named this week's
UNCP Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced
Monday.
Svensson, a Norrkoping, Sweden, native, scored five goals in two
starts for the Lady Braves last week, netting her first two goals
of the season, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 victory over
Mount Olive in the season opener, and then registering her first
career hat trick (three goals) in a 4-1 rout of Lenoir-Rhyne. The
preseason all-Peach Belt Conference selection turned in 11 shots on
the week, including five shots on goal, and played every minute of
both home contests on the week.
Svensson has played in all 20 games of her UNCP career, including
19 starts, and has scored 39 points on 18 goals and two assists.
She earned second team all-Peach Belt Conference laurels last
season after pacing the Lady Braves with 13 goals and three
assists.
