Soccer’s Brittany Padilla Named UNCP Athlete Of The Week

PEMBROKE – After pacing the UNCP women's soccer team to its sixth- and seventh-consecutive victories on the season last week, both of which came in Peach Belt Conference play, sophomore Brittany Padilla has been named this week's UNCP Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.

Padilla, a Jacksonville native, scored three goals in two starts for the Lady Braves this week, while also netting the game-winning scores in wins at USC Aiken and Georgia Southwestern. A key member of the Lady Brave defense, the sophomore scored the eventual game-winner on a 67th-minute penalty kick against the Pacers, and then scored the first and last goals in a 4-0 win over the Hurricanes in Americus, Ga., on Saturday. Padilla amassed just three shots on the week, but scored on each strike she took.

Padilla has played in 23 games in her still-young career in Pembroke, including 14 starts. Her five goals this season currently ranks second on the squad behind preseason all-PBC selection Anna Svensson. Both Padilla and Svensson have notched a team-best four game-winning goals as well.
