Bennett Named PBC Goalkeeper Of The Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – After registering a league-high 23 saves last week, including nine in UNCP's 1-0 win over No. 14 Columbus State on Friday, UNCP sophomore goalkeeper Britney Bennett has been named the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Bennett pitched her 12th and 13th career shutouts on the week while holding opponents to a 0.30 goals against average and posting a 2-0-1 record. She recorded nine saves in the Lady Braves' 1-0 win over No. 14 Columbus State on Friday before collecting five saves in UNCP's 1-0 victory over West Georgia on Saturday. She allowed her first goal of the season in the Lady Braves' 1-1 tie at Mount Olive, but recorded nine saves during the game. She now leads the PBC in saves (27), save percentage (.964) and goals against average.
This is the fifth Goalkeeper of the Week award for Bennett during her career.
She and teammates Andrea Collèn and Fanny Forsman swept the PBC weekly awards this week after Collèn was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and Bennett was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
No. 15 UNCP closes out its seven-game road trip to start the season this weekend when it takes on North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga., on Saturday before making its first ever trip to Young Harris, Ga., for a matchup with the Young Harris Mountain Lions on Sunday.
