20 Questions With Jenna McGary
UNCPBraves.com recently had the chance to sit down with senior tennis player Jenna McGary to learn of her opinion on a variety of topics ranging from what she is most proud of to how she wants to be remembered when she leaves Pembroke. The following 20 questions are a part of a new feature at your official home from UNCP Athletics.
McGary, a Charlotte native, entered into the fall season as the number one player on the squad, seizing her first singles title as she won the Singles Championship Tournament at the Methodist Invitational. She won third-set tiebreakers in both the quarterfinals and semifinals of the championship flight, but took the championship victory in straight sets, winning 6-1 and 6-2. She continued playing number one singles at the ITA Southeast Region Championships and took home the consolation championship for the UNCP tennis team.
In her career at UNCP, Jenna has improved her overall record to 39-32 after moving from No. 2 singles her freshman year to No. 1 singles for the last three years. She has been a member of the No. 1 doubles lineup with a 35-33 record for the Black and Gold.

I Came To UNCP Because: I wanted to go to a University that wanted me instead of just like "eh, we will take you." The team and coach is what made my decision. They made me feel right at home and apart of their team.
The Most Famous Person I've Ever Met: Anna Kournikova; I was more excited about meeting her then her meeting me.
As A Kid, My Sports Idol Was: Michael Jordan; when I played basketball in middle and high school I always had his number - 23!
Talent I'd Like To Have: To snap with my left hand. I can snap on my right but my left hasn't quite figured it out yet.
What Channel Is Your TV on the Most?: TBS, TNT or USA. It just depends on what time of the day it is.
The Celebrity Some People Say I Look Like: Nobody has ever told me I look like a celebrity. I just take that as I'm one of a kind and a unique individual.
Biggest Pet Peeve: When people unlock the car doors as I am driving. I feel like they are about to tuck and roll out of my car. It just bothers me.
Favorite Movie: I know its old school but I love The Goonies!
Best Non-Athletic Talent: I would like to think it is making people laugh and smile. That is one of my favorite things to do, I hate seeing people down or in a bad mood.
Dream Job: Is to coach college tennis... the end!
What Do You Miss Most About Home?: My family and home cooked meals. It's just not the same when I cook it, I don't know what mom's secret is.
I Am Most Proud Of: I am the youngest of five kids but I'm the only one to graduate from high school and go straight to college.
My Motto Is: "No Worries"
What Is Your Major And Why Does It Interest You?: Exercise Science (Sports Management Track) and it interests me because I hope it will help me down the road with my future job as a head coach but I have changed my major about three times until I got to this one.
If You Were A Candy, What One Would It Be Called?: GOOBER!
Favorite Outdoor Activity: Besides tennis... really anything outside: Basketball, Frisbee, Golf and taking my dog to the park. I just love the outdoors in general.
What I Love Most About UNCP?: My coach and my team. They are always there for me and are my family. I love them all!
My Advice To Youngsters Would Be: Don't live your life for anyone else except yourself and people will disappoint you but what makes you stronger is how you deal with the situation. Have no regrets.
What Is One Thing You Want To Happen Before You Leave UNCP?: For me personally, to win my match against Armstrong Atlantic.
How Do You Want People At UNCP To Remember You?: On the academic side, the girl who busted her butt and had a great support system pushing her to succeed and staying eligible all four years. On the tennis side, the girl who played her heart out and left it all on the court.
