Lady Braves Shut Out By No. 7 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – No. 7 Columbus State captured all three doubles matches and swept singles play in posting a 9-0 shutout of visiting UNCP on Sunday morning at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center. 

The Cougars (14-0, 4-0 PBC) yielded just seven games in sweeping through doubles play in taking a 3-0 lead over the Lady Braves (8-9, 0-6). Shelby Bickel and Hannah Herlocker dropped an 8-1 decision at No. 1 doubles to Carolin Weikard and Milica Tomic, while the CSU duo of Andrea Redrado and Renata Paiva registered an 8-4 win on court No. 2 over Mia Winterbottom and Leigh-Anne McAfee. Olivera Jokic and Sandra Jung completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 victory against Madeline DiNunzio and Monica Espitia on court No. 3. 

Redrado shut out Bickel 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, while Madeline Johnson clinched the team victory by booking a 6-0, 6-1 win over Herlocker on court No. 3. Winterbottom was bested by No. 46 Paola Ciqui at No. 1 singles before Jung upended DiNunzio 6-3, 6-0 on court No. 5. Paiva held off Espitia in a 7-5 first set and then slid by in the second set 6-2 at No. 6 singles. McAfee won her first set at No. 2 singles then No. 26 Weikard won the next set 6-3 before coming out on top with a 10-5 tiebreaker set. 

The Lady Braves will be back in action against on Wednesday when they travel to Fayetteville to take on the Lady Broncos (3-5) of Fayetteville State. Match time is slated for noon.
