Davis Logs Top-5 Finishes For UNCP At UNCW Seahawk Invitational
WILMINGTON – Senior Katherine Davis grabbed top-5 finishes in the hammer throw, shot put and discus throw to help the UNCP women's track team to a sixth place at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational on Saturday.
Davis posted a first place finish in the discus throw with a throw of 42.96m, while finishing second with a mark of 50.99m in the hammer throw and fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.23m. Jessica McDowell registered a leap of 5.21m in the long jump for a fifth place finish on day one for the Lady Braves as well. McDowell crossed the finish line in fourth place in the 100m dash with a time of 12.48 seconds. Livia Mahaffie was the first Lady Brave to cross the finish line in the 5000 meter run, booking a 10th place finish with a time of 18:41.59.
The 4x100m relay team (Sesh Chantalle Williams, Jessica McDowell, Olivia Mack and Janay Moore) grabbed a seventh place finish with a time of 50.46 seconds, while the 4x400m relay team (Olivia Mack, Jessica McDowell, Woodi Jones and Janay Moore) finished in fifth place with a time of 4:14.64.
The women's track and field team will be back in action again next weekend when the Lady Braves compete at the CCU Shamrock Invitational. The event will get underway with a handful of events on Friday, with the annual meet concluding with a majority of the running events on Saturday.
