Pirates Sink UNCP In PBC Play
PEMBROKE – Armstrong Atlantic State sisters Kristin and Kathrin Standhardinger led the Pirate offense against UNCP with Kristin tallying a game-high 35 assists and Kathrin posting a game-high 11 kills on Saturday as AASU defeated the Braves 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action at the English E. Jones Center.
Pembroke’s Tiara Anderson led the team in kills with seven on the day hitting for a .316 average in the process. However, UNCP (7-10, 1-5 PBC) hit for only a team average of .054 with three Braves hitting in the negative. The Pirates (13-5, 5-2 PBC) Kathrin Standhardinger committed only one attack error to hit for an impressive .558 clip against the Black & Gold.
AASU dominated the first set of the match winning 25-13 while tallying 16 kills as a team and committing only three attack errors for a team hitting percentage of .394. The Braves rallied in the second set battling with the Pirates to a 14-14 tie before AASU was slowly able to pull away for a 25-21 victory.
The third set saw the two teams trade points back-and-forth early in the set before the Pirates would go on a 15-5 run to win the game 25-14.
The Braves offense only tallied 22 kills in the match with freshman setter Sam Wylie recording only 17 assists. Andrea Laza and Allie Schneider each posted 10 digs for the Braves on defense.
AASU libero Casey Howett recorded a game-high 14 digs with teammate Torrie Bevolo adding 13 of her own to the Pirate total. Kathrin Standhardinger racked up four blocks (one solo) to lead all players in the match.
