UNCP Defeats Belmont Abbey, Falls To Lenoir-Rhyne On Day Two Of LRC Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. – The UNCP volleyball team started the day out with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19) setback against host-Lenoir-Rhyne and finished with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Belmont Abbey to finish day two of the 2009 LRC Invitational, closing out the tournament with a record of 2-2.

The Braves started out the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Coker on Friday afternoon before dropping a 3-1 decision to Catawba later in the day. UNCP is now 2-1 at neutral sites and 0-1 in away matches, with Pembroke’s match with LRC counting as a home game for the Bears.

UNCP has won five consecutive games against Belmont Abbey with the Black & Gold holding a 5-1 lifetime record against the Crusaders. LRC has won two in a row against Pembroke while leading the all-time series 12-6.

The Braves will open the 2009 home slate with region-rival Fayetteville State on Wednesday night at the English E. Jones Center at 7 p.m. UNCP went 2-1 against the Lady Broncos last season wining two home matches with FSU and falling once at Capel Arena. Admission is free for all UNCP home volleyball matches.
