Lady Braves Third At Peach Belt Conference Championships

EVANS, Ga. – Senior Bonnie MacDonald led the UNCP women's cross country team to a third place finish in the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday morning at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga. MacDonald finished sixth to grab herself a spot on the all-conference first team.

MacDonald registered a time of 25:03.3 as the first Lady Brave to finish. Livia Mahaffie finished second for UNCP and 13th overall with a time of 25:31.3 to land herself on the all-conference second team.  Ashlee Doughty crossed as the 17th runner with a 25:46.1 time while Annette Sem finished 30th with a time of 27:09.3

Rounding out the pack for the Black and Gold was Catherine Shoemaker (27:43.7) in 39th place, Blair Long (28:12.0) in 44th and Woodi Jones (28:31.9) in 49th.

The Lady Braves finished third for the second consecutive year marking the highest finish UNCP has achieved. Columbus State took home first place honors as all five runners scored in the top-10 on the 6K course. PBC Runner of the Year Brittney Skiles (CSU) finished first with a time of 23:35.2, while teammate Naomi Tanui finished third with a time of 23:44.7.

Augusta State finished second while Clayton State (4th), Montevallo (5th), Georgia College (6th), Flagler (7th), USC Aiken (8th), Georgia Southwestern (9th) and Francis Marion (10th) rounded out the field.

UNCP will now prepare for the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships at Charlotte's McAlpine Creek Park on November 20. The race times are still to be determined.
