Men’s Hoops Host USC Beaufort, Shaw For Thanksgiving Tournament

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team will will host a Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday and Sunday when they welcome USC Beaufort and Shaw to town at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The Braves will kick off round-robin tournament action on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they go toe-to-toe with USC Beaufort, and will close out the weekend on Sunday when they battle the Shaw at 4 p.m. The 2-day, 4-team challenge also has Ferrum participating in the action. Tickets for the challenge can be purchased at UNCPBraves.com/Tickets.  Fans can receive free admission by bringing a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. 

Fans unable to make the trip to Pembroke can follow the game for free via a live video stream on the UNCP Sports Network with Alex Inbornone handling play-by-play duties. Live statistics will also be provided by UNCP.

ABOUT UNC PEMBROKE
  • Saturday's meeting against USC Beaufort will be the first time the two teams have played. 
  • Sunday's matchup with Shaw marks just the third time the two teams have met. UNCP won the last meeting 62-60 on Nov. 26, 2022 in Petersburg, Va.
  • UNCP enters the weekend following a 92-71 victory over Barton on Tuesday. The Black & Gold shot 50.8 percent from the field and scored 25 points from turnovers. 
  • The Braves are averaging 80.0 points per game and are shooting 46.7 percent from the field. Opponents average 71.0 points per game and are shooting 42.2 percent from the floor. 
  • Joe'l Pettiford nearly recorded a double-double during Tuesday's victory with 14 points and nine rebounds. Seven of his rebounds were on the offensive glass.  

ABOUT USC BEAUFORT
  • USC Beaufort had its four-game win streak snapped on Sunday with a 100-66 setback at No. 6 Alabama Huntsville. USCB shot 34.7 percent from the field and got outscored 56-34 with points in the paint. 
  •  The Sand Sharks are averaging 89.0 points per game and are shooting 43.6 percent from the field. Opponents average 87.4 points per contest and are shooting 47.6 percent from the floor. 
  • USC Beaufort forces its opponents into 17.4. turnovers per game and score 24.2 points from those miscues. 
  • Dominic Eason leads the Sand Sharks averaging 12.2 points per game. The sophomore has scored in double-figures in all but one contest and is shooting 41.2 percent from the floor. 

ABOUT SHAW
  • Shaw steps into the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record and picked up a 96-71 victory against Paine Tuesday. The Bears shot 54.8 percent from the floor and tallied 50 points from their bench. 
  • Shaw averages 88.5 points per game while shooting 51.6 percent from the field. They limit opponents to 77.0 points per game and 42.9 percent shooting. 
  • Opponents are forced into 19.3 turnovers per outing and allow the Bears to score 23.5 points from those turnovers. 
  • Avery Higgins is fresh off of a 24 point showing against Paine. The senior came off of the bench and nearly registered a double-double with nine rebounds, while also registering three blocks and a steal.
