AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken shot better than 56 percent from the field in the second half and outscored the visiting UNC Pembroke women's basketball team 30-8 in the third quarter on the way to an 84-41 victory over the Braves on Wednesday evening in the Convocation Center.
The setback marked the sixth loss in the last eight outings for UNCP (5-7, 0-5 PBC) who wrapped up a season-long five-game road trip with the result. It was the first league victory for the Pacers (6-8, 1-4) who improved to 38-13 in the all-time series with the Black & Gold.
Nadine Ealey came off the bench to score a career-best seven points in as many minutes of action for the visitors, while Airico Williams pulled down a team-best seven boards and added a trio of assists for the Braves as well.
Stephanie Ball registered 15 points to lead USC Aiken who also keyed the triumph with 27 points on 22 turnovers by the Braves. Rachelle Aupont and Alexis Ware came off the bench to tally 13 points apiece for the hosts.
USC Aiken scored 10 of the final 13 points in the opening half to take a 15-point, 37-22, advantage into the locker rooms, but blew the game wide open with 18-straight points in the third period that eventually gave the hosts a 58-26 lead with 2:59 left to play in the stanza.
The Braves scored the first six points of the final period to cut their deficit back to 69-36, but the Pacers padded their lead out to a game-high 43 points, 82-39, four minutes later after a jump shot by Baylea Loven.
UNCP will open up a three-game home stand on Saturday when they return home for the first time in nearly a month to battle PBC West rival Montevallo (4-7, 1-3) in the front half of a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
