All-American first-baseman for three seasons--Played professionally for the Cleveland Indians after graduation. Pembroke State Retired #35 in February, 1969. Carruthers held six PSU batting records at conclusion of career.

First-Team All-America, NAIA player of the year and all-state selection in 1971. Left-handed pitcher for Pembroke State
Ronnie Collins Baseball Uniform #28
Set Pembroke State record for most home runs in a season (14) and career (33). Three-time all-state selection at shortstop (1968, 1969, 1970), a first team all-America selection in 1979 following a pair of second team nods in 1968 & 1969. Played professionally for New York Mets.
Victor Elk Cross Country Shoes
Pembroke State’s first all-American in the sport of Cross Country (1973). Also received track and field honorable mention all-America laurels in 1972, 1973 and 1974. A four-time all-district performer in cross country (1970-73) and track and field (1971-74).
Joe Gallagher Men's Basketball Uniform #24
School’s all-Time leading scorer with 2,161 points. Holds records for best scoring avg. (25.6) and best rebounding average (14.5). Served as PSU’s head basketball coach from 1975-78. Jersey retired in December, 1970.
Garry Henry Cross Country Uniform
Earned all-American honors 13 times during career, including four in the sport of cross country (NAIA in 1976, 78; NCAA II in 1980; NCAA I in 1980). Took home individual cross country national champion accolades twice (NAIA in 1977, NCAA II in 1980). Earned four NAIA all-American nods in the 5,000-meter run (1977, 78, 79, 82) and 10,000-meter run (same years). Earned NCAA II all-American honors in the 10,000-meter run in 1978 and 1979. Earned national championship laurels in both the 5,000-and 10,000-meter run in 1978 and 1982. Established NAIA and NCAA II records in the 10,000-meter run.
Bob Hudkins Wrestling Uniform
Took home 1973 all-American laurels in 1973 (177 lbs.) to become PSU’s first all-American in the sport. Took home state championship accolades in 1974 after winning three-straight NAIA District 29 titles (1972-74). Became first PSU wrestler to post a 30-win campaign, accomplishing the feat on three occasions (1972 - 32; 1973 - 31;1974 - 34). Came within three victories (97) of reaching the century mark while serving two stints (1973-74) as team captain.
Ron Norman Baseball Uniform #18
Established Pembroke State records for single season wins (12), career wins (35), single season strikeouts (200), career strikeouts (200), career shutouts (14) and single season earned run average (0.83). Led nation in strikeouts in 1973. Took home all-America honors in 1973 and 1974 after capturing three-straight (1972-74) NAIA all-district 29 nods. Pitched in World Amateur Baseball Tournament in Manague, Nicaragua and followed with a professional career in the Texas Rangers organization.
Charles Shipman Track & Field Discus
Earned indoor track all-American laurels in 1976 after participating in three-straight (1976-78) NAIA and NCAA track and field championships. Earned NAIA discus national champion accolades in 1977 after taking home the NCAA title in 1976. Also took home 1978 NCAA national champion laurels in the shot put.

Earned two-straight Carolinas Conference player of the year accolades (1983-84) and was a member of Pembroke State’s Class of 1985.
Barbara Green Women's Basketball Uniform #20
Earned third team NAIA all-America honors in 1984 and currently ranks second on UNCP’s basketball (male or female) scoring charts and first on the female scoring charts with 2,133 career points. Earned all-conference laurels four times and all-district honors on three occasions. A member of Pembroke State’s Class of 1985.
Jay Stainback Wrestling Uniform
Earned all-America honors four times while posting 117 career victories to place himself among the top wrestlers of all time. Took home all-district honors four times while also earning academic all-America accolades on two occasions. A member of Pembroke State’s Class of 1987.
Joe Stukes Wrestling Uniform
School’s all-time winningest wrestler with 161 career victories. Earned three NCAA II all-America accolades (126 lbs.) while finishing second place in the NCAA II national championships as a senior. A member of PSU’s Class of 1988.
Harold Ellen Baseball Jersey
Served a pair of stints as Pembroke State’s head baseball coach in 1968 and from 1970-1986. Posted 331 wins over career, led four teams to district title and took two teams to the NAIA World Series.
Dr. Ray Brayboy Baseball Uniform #13
Nearly .330 career hitter, was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics all-American following the 1967 and 1969 seasons. In 1969, Brayboy posted an astounding .390 batting average.Â
