The process also required a letter of support from a UNCP faculty or staff person, and finally a biography that described the applicant and the applicant's accomplishments at UNCP. Espitia was joined in the list of five finalists for the award by fellow student-athletes Michelle Hernandez (soccer) and Brea Hartley (softball).
