Final Results
MARS HILL – The UNC Pembroke swimming and diving team wrapped up its first season with an 88-47 victory over Warren Wilson at the Mars Hill Invitational Saturday afternoon, also falling to host Mars Hill and St. Andrews at Harrell Pool in western North Carolina.
The Black & Gold took to the pool in the first event of the day, the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team of
Alexys Pagan,
Sonyaliz Goveo,
Gina Zhang and
Kelsey Williams took third in 2:18.01. The Braves switched out Pagan in favor of
Taylor Lusk in the 200 Freestyle Relay, turning in another third-place finish in 1:59.07.
Williams competed in one individual event in the season finale, placing fourth in the 200 Freestyle in a time of 2:24.13. Zhang touched fourth in a pair of events, the 100 Breaststroke (1:19.77) and the 100 Butterfly (1:05.21), while Lusk finished fourth in the 500 Freestyle (7:41.07) and eighth in the 50 Freestyle (32.42).
Goveo grabbed two sixth-place finishes, in both the 100 Breaststroke (1:27.81) and the 50 Freestyle (29.22).
Amanda Snider wrapped up her season with a sixth-place finish in the 100 Freestyle in 1:16.07 and took seventh in the 100 Backstroke, touching in 1:37.02.
It was an eighth-place finish for Pagan in the 100 Freestyle (1:19.50) and
Emmaline Mansfield touched sixth in the 200 Freestyle in a time of 3:12.36.
As the 2016-17 campaign comes to an end, the Black & Gold can hang its hat on a pair of team wins, Saturday in Mars Hill and Jan. 14 in Greensboro, and a multitude of individual event victories. Stay tuned to uncpbraves.com for updates about the swimming and diving squad throughout the offseason.
