ROANOKE, Va. – Six student-athletes registered multiple wins on the mat, including three that did it in their collegiate debuts, as the UNC Pembroke wrestling team lifted the lid on its 2017-18 campaign on Saturday at the Virginia Tech-hosted Hokie Open.
 
Goldston native Nick Daggett, who was competing in the event as an unattached entry, registered four victories in the 125-pound tournament but fell just shy on his quest for a spot on the podium. He posted three bonus-point victories along the way, including a first-period pin (2:22) of Davidson's Michael McClelland in his consolation bracket opener.
 
Redshirt freshman Michael Perez grabbed his first two official collegiate victories in the 125-pound tournament, including a 74-second pin of VMI's Clifton Conway in his opening match of the day. Likewise, Andrew Colborn recorded his first two collegiate victories in the heavyweight bracket, including a third-period pin (6:09) of Ohio's Jared Pegher.
 
The Braves will make their home debut on November 12 when they suit up to host the 37^th Annual Pembroke Classic at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. Wrestling action is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.
