Baseball Slips Five Spots To No. 16 In NCBWA Top 25 Poll

2017 NCBWA National Poll (Feb. 28, 2017)

AUSTIN, Texas
– A three-win week on the baseball diamond was not enough to impress the national voters as the UNC Pembroke baseball team slipped five spots to No. 16 in the latest edition of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 poll that was released on Tuesday afternoon by the organization.

The Braves (12-2) registered a 5-2 victory over then-No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, but had their 10-game win streak snapped with a 6-5 setback to Lake Erie in Saturday's series opener at Sammy Cox Field. The Black & Gold would rebound to take the weekend series with the Storm with 14-3 and 6-5 wins, respectively.

UNCP continues to be joined by two other Peach Belt Conference teams in Tuesday's edition of the ranking, including Peach Belt-Conference co-leader USC Aiken (12-2) who held on to its No. 3 position in the poll. Francis Marion (13-2) jumped up six spots to No. 12 after a 3-1 week, including a series victory over league rival Augusta.

The Black & Gold will hit the road again on Wednesday when it travels to Salisbury for a 5 p.m. matchup with Catawba (10-3) at Newman Field. The Indians are ranked No. 21 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 25.
