SALEM, Va. – Senior
Jamie Johnson became the first player in the 29-year history of the UNC Pembroke softball program to earn three separate all-American distinctions in her career, as the third baseman was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American squad and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-American team on Wednesday evening.
The 2018 all-American honors come after a 2017 NFCA nod to give Johnson three prestigious honors in a two-year span. Johnson joins Jelena Shaw (2008, 2010) as the only Braves to be named an NFCA All-American twice and becomes the third Brave to earn all-American honors from the D2CCA (Berrier, 2008 and Hartley, 2013). The Kenly, North Carolina native picked up third-team honors from the NFCA for the second-consecutive season and was among the honorable mentions form the D2CCA.
Johnson led the PBC in batting average (.435), on-base percentage (.512) and triples (5), while ranking second in hits (64), slugging percentage (.762) and assists (116). She also ranked among the league's top five in runs (48), doubles (14), total bases (112) and stolen bases (24). Johnson's 43 RBIs slotted sixth in the PBC, while her eight home runs ranked 10th in the conference.
The senior led the Black & Gold with 21 multi-hit games, including four games with a trio of hits. Her 11 multi-RBI outings was also a team-high and she reached base in 20-straight games at one point in the season. Johnson is hit .475 with runners on base, .500 with the bases loaded and .549 with runners in scoring position. She has compiled a .857 average with a runner on third and less than two outs and a .576 average when leading off an inning. Johnson broke the all-time UNCP record for doubles with her 48th-career double in 2018.
