May 24, 2018

CHARLOTTE – Senior Kory Jones logged a distance of 7.34 meters amid a field of the nation's best long jumpers, and capped an illustrious collegiate career with a 13th  place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships inside Johnson C. Smith's Irwin Belk Complex on Thursday afternoon.

Jones, an 8-time all-Peach Belt Conference performer whose career also includes five PBC titles in two different events, finished just .02 meters away from a top-10 finish on Thursday. The 18-man event was won by Minnesota State-Moorhead's Brian Huber with a mark of 7.98 meters.

Jones exits UNCP as one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history. He earned all-America honors in the Long Jump with a seventh place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships.

The Braves will continue action at the NCAA Championships with a pair of events on Friday. Sophomore Lashonda Tate will compete in the Triple Jump at 4:45 p.m., while senior Jeanna Cube will take to the track at 6:30 p.m. for the 100-meter Hurdles.
