Lady Braves Post 4-0 Rout At Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – UNCP needed just more than three minutes off the game clock to put in a first period goal, then blew the game wide open with a trio of second half scores, as the Lady Braves remained unbeaten with a 4-0 victory at Limestone on Saturday afternoon.

Sarah Day punched in her second goal in as many games, but UNCP (2-0-0) got scores from three other players in tallying their largest margin of victory since a 4-0 victory at Lander in October of last season. The Lady Braves are perfect through a pair of outings for the fourth straight season, while Limestone fell to 0-4-0 on the still-young campaign.

UNCP posted 14 shots in each half, including holding the Lady Saints without a look in the second stanza. Lefke Boysen and Alex McManus both amassed a game-best five shots. Lady Braves netminder Whitney Beverly posted her second clean sheet in as many appearances in 2007 as well.

Day put the Lady Braves on the board early following a corner kick 3:34 into the game, but Limestone nearly countered five minutes later on a hard strike that found the hands of a diving Beverly. Despite an onslaught of shots by the visitors, the 1-0 score would hold up heading into the break.

A slow-starting second half offense kept both teams off the board for the first 20 minutes of the next period, but freshman Brittany Greaves pushed the UNCP lead out to a pair with a 66th minute goal off an assist from Jamie Clarke. Ten minutes later, Nisa Akins would get in on the action and Lefke Boysen completed the game scoring with a 79th minute penalty kick.

UNCP will be back in action on Wednesday when the Black and Gold entertain Queens (1-1-0) in a 5 p.m. tilt at Varsity Grounds. Admission to all 2007 UNCP soccer home games is free.
