AUGUSTA, Ga. – For their efforts in a
pair of victories for the UNCP men's soccer team last week,
goalkeeper Horatio Bynes
and defender Michael Davis
have each earned a Peach Belt Conference weekly honor, the league
office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Davis, who earned the conference's Defender of the Week
laurel, scored a goal in UNCP's 4-0 win over Chowan on
Wednesday and was an integral part of a defense that limited both
opponents (USC Aiken) to a combined nine shots. Chowan mustered
just one first half shot and finished with three for the game,
while USC Aiken took five shots into the halftime break and managed
just one the rest of the way out.
Bynes, who earned PBC Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the
third time this season, allowed just one goal and tallied a pair of
saves in his only action of the week on the road at USC Aiken. The
victory for the Braves also marked the Richland native's
fifth individual victory of the season and helped lower his overall
goals against average down to 1.27.
The recognition marks the final weekly honors of the season for
the Peach Belt Conference. The Black and Gold earned eight of the
30 accolades this season, including four goalkeeper of the week
awards (three for Bynes, one for Tom Courtney), three Defender of
the Week laurels (Andrew Brown, Brendan Cook, Davis) and one
Offensive Player of the Week honor (Carlos Cipriano).
