ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A poor team-hitting
performance doomed the UNCP women's volleyball team Friday in
St. Augustine, Fla., as the host Flagler Saints took a 3-0 victory
on their home court in Peach Belt Conference action at Flagler
Gym.
Flagler (11-5, 5-1), the preseason favorite to win the conference,
took the straight-set victory via scores of 13-25, 18-25 and
20-25.
The Lady Braves (10-5, 2-3 PBC) fell behind early and never got
the offense going in registering a season-low hitting percentage
(-0.027). The Saints victory was fueled by a strong team-hitting
performance (.223) and a sideout percentage of 66%, compared to 45%
by the Lady Braves.
Senior Rachel Young had a strong outing in
registering seven kills on a .455 attack percentage while
contributing two blocks (one solo) on the defensive side.
Allie Schneider finished second on the squad with
six kills, and her seven digs were the second most on the team.
Junior setter Heather Bolwerk registered 20
assists and five digs while freshman Marissa Baker
had 17 digs from her libero position.
UNCP continues their road trip tomorrow afternoon with a matchup
against Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah, Ga., at 3:00 p.m. AASU took
a 3-0 victory over Francis Marion tonight to improve their 2010
records to 8-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
